Philip J. McNutt



Philip J. McNutt is a nationally recognized expert in bankruptcy, insolvency law, and workouts. He has served as chairman of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law and Banking Sections of the Montgomery County Bar Association, is a member of the Banking and Commercial Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association, and has served on several committees of the American Bankruptcy Institute. Mr. McNutt has lectured for the Maryland Bar Association’s MICPEL continuing legal education programs, the Montgomery-Prince George’s Continuing Legal Education Institute, and the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges.


In addition to his bankruptcy and creditors’ rights practice, Mr. McNutt does extensive litigation in the federal and state courts on commercial and small business matters, including real estate and construction disputes and government contracts matters. He has argued numerous cases before the Maryland Courts of Appeal and the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and has appeared before several federal administrative tribunals. His litigation experience includes defense of class actions, legal malpractice suits, securities litigation, construction disputes, contract litigation and real estate disputes. Mr. McNutt has also acted as general counsel to several metropolitan DC area high-tech businesses and retailers.
